Welcome to the John Joseph Inn

Apr 19, 2023

Nestled in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, the John Joseph Inn is a charming, luxurious inn that offers guests a truly unforgettable experience.

Originally built in 1842 as the historic Rose Inn, the site tragically burned down in 2004. Upon hearing the news, Ithaca native and former wedding client John Hamilton sprung into action. Immediately recognizing the opportunity before him to restore and preserve a place both he and the community held so dear, John embarked on a mission to operate an exceptional full service inn and restaurant. Since 2006, the John Joseph Inn has been lovingly restored and renovated over the years to provide modern comforts while still preserving its unique and storied character. Today, the inn boasts six beautifully appointed guest rooms, decorated with antiques, fine linens, stunning fireplaces, modern amenities and other luxurious touches.

But the John Joseph Inn is much more than just a place to rest your head. With over 110 acres of lush countryside situated near the picturesque Cayuga Lake, it’s the perfect place to stay for travelers looking to take full advantage of the Finger Lakes region. Hike along the Cascadilla Gorge Trail that connects downtown Ithaca to Cornell University, stroll through the Ithaca Farmers Market for some seasonal bites, and relax at the various wineries and breweries at your fingertips.

For those who prefer a more relaxing vacation, the John Joseph Inn is an ideal spot to unwind. Take a soak in your in-room jacuzzi tub, have a glass of wine by the roaring fire, or read a book on the outdoor porch overlooking the orchard fields.

The real highlight of the John Joseph Inn is the food. Our owner and executive chef, John Hamilton, is a graduate of the world-renowned Culinary Institute of America who has worked in restaurants across the United States. Guaranteeing unsurpassed freshness, John takes great pride in employing community growers as well as supplying much of the produce from his very own farm. During select months, the inn hosts Chef’s Tastings, a five course ever-evolving menu that is sure to delight your taste buds. From savory soups and salads to hearty main courses and decadent desserts, every meal is a feast for the senses.

The John Joseph Inn is also a popular destination for weddings, corporate events, and other special occasions. The inn's beautifully landscaped grounds and elegant interior spaces, such as our English Ballroom tent and 1852 restored carriage house, provide the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable wedding weekend or milestone celebration.

Whether you're looking for a peaceful retreat in the countryside, a romantic weekend getaway, or a memorable venue for your next event, the John Joseph Inn is sure to exceed your expectations. Book your stay today and discover the charm and beauty of this historic gem in the Finger Lakes region.
